Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between Scope 1, 2 and 3?

Scope 1 is direct emissions from sources you own, Scope 2 is purchased energy, and Scope 3 is everything else in your value chain.

How many Scope 3 categories are there?

Fifteen, from purchased goods and services to end-of-life treatment of sold products. We screen all fifteen and calculate the relevant ones.

Do we need both location-based and market-based Scope 2?

The GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance asks for both where market-based instruments such as renewable energy contracts exist.

Can you verify our inventory?

No. Verification needs an independent body. Because we built the inventory, we prepare it for their review.
